MUAY THAI AND KICKBOXING BEGINNER & GENERAL SESSION
Suitable for beginners up to and including level 1. The classes with a
are suitable for you trial week. These sessions are fitness and skill sessions where you practice both offensive and defensive aspects of Muay Thai & kickboxing in a safe, positive and controlled environment. They include technique practice in the mirror, partner work, shield work, bag work and general free body fitness drills. To do regular sessions you need your own gloves, mouthguard and shin guards.
GRADED SESSIONS
The graded classes offer greater challenges and skill development for those who wish to follow the Phoenix System and keep developing their skills and fitness. Classes are broken up into components for enhanced learning. To learn more about the graded system get a copy of the curriculum book or buy the complete version in the book – Re-defining Martial Arts. For people graded to level 1 your options are: A Level One Specific session on Tuesday, Coaching Hour on a Monday, Sparring on a Wed and Sat plus Pad Work on the Thursday night. The Tue session is about a 30% step up from the beginner sessions and introduces intermediate aspects of the curriculum including more partner work, contact drills and learning to use your defences and attacks in controlled scenarios. It is essential to learn the skills and fitness required in the Tue class for at least 12 months plus regular sparring to progress to Level Two. THAI PAD TRAINING. Learn and practice the fun and skill of Thai Pad training and work out on the heavy bags. This class is designed for anyone wishing to train the more traditional Thai way and do a solid workout on the pads. Level one is min requirement so you know what all the basics are called and can do them with some level of skill and hold the pads for correct technique. (Your own Thai Pads are required for regular attendance and although not compulsory, it helps to come with a partner so you can learn to hold the pads together)
LEVEL 2 – Classes for those graded to level 2
Level 2 is the Intermediate Step and usually takes 12 months of regular training from level 1. Grading at Phoenix is competency based and something you have to earn and be proud of! Grading is for your fun, enjoyment and a true measure of your level.
FIGHT TEAM TRAINING
Fight team training is for anyone that has a dream to compete at Muay Thai, kickboxing, or MMA. Fight team is only for those people who get selected for the prestigious Phoenix competition team. Fitness testing is only held twice a year so ask a coach when the next one is, so you can start training now. Minimum level for consideration is level 2 and an ADDICTED membership. If you are interested, grade to level 1, then ask a coach what to do next.
